December 17, 2011 Email Blast

2011 has been an incredible year for both the Mount Doug Alumni and the current student body –

November not only saw the “Rams” win the BC AAA Senior Boys Football Championship, but we also celebrated our school’s 80th Anniversary with an amazing 9 days of events which featured so much of what makes Mount Doug special.

Thanks to all the volunteers who worked so tirelessly to make the MD80 Anniversary Celebration such a big success.  The MDAA website has some video posted and eventually will have more photos and video highlights posted for your memories and enjoyment, so keep visiting!

The Celebration Committee wishes to also thank all the alumni who came, contributed, supported and enjoyed these events and the friends, neighbours and community who did the same. It was such a memorable time and such a success because of you!  In total, over 9 days, the MD80 Anniversary Celebration raised approximately $50,000.00 to assist in funding the needs of current and future students and establishing a Mount Doug Endowment Fund.

Also, these events will be captured in a chapter of our MD Commemorative Book which is underway but requires a second writer. If you went to the current MD campus on Gordon Head Road and can offer some time for this fund-raiser (and the only book on the school in existence), please let us know. The book committee awaits your email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or  call 250 477-6977.

While the amount that was raised during this birthday celebration is significant, it addresses only a small portion of what will eventually be required for the ongoing support of Mount Doug students’ pursuit of excellence in any and all fields about which they feel passionate.

With that thought in mind, when you are making decisions to support charities at Christmas time, don’t forget that the Mount Doug Alumni Association is a registered charity. Your tax receipt will be issued in time for submitting with your 2011 tax return if you make your contribution before December 31st. Please visit www.mountdougalumni.com and click on the “Donate” button – you’ll find easy instructions to make your online donation with “Canada Helps”, or our mailing address if you prefer to mail us a cheque.

And if you didn’t get a chance to attend any of the MD80 events, please consider joining the “Absentee Honour Roll” and making a tax deductible donation of $80.00, representing a symbolic gift of $1 for each year students have passed through the doors of Mount Doug. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Finally, on behalf of the Mount Doug Alumni Association Board of Directors, we wish you and your family all the best for the coming holiday season and hope to see you at upcoming MDAA events in 2012. Stay tuned!
